Botanical Medicine

For much of the world, herbal medicine was the first medicine. Plants have been used to heal the sick and treat emotional illnesses for thousands of years. In fact, many common pharmaceuticals are based upon plant remedies.

Many of us know a few herbs to treat certain conditions. For example, we drink chamomile tea for relaxation and insomnia or we know that St. John's Wort can treat depression. The art of prescribing botanical medicines is to know what herbal combinations are effective for a particular patient's case. Herbal medicines can be delivered as a tea, capsules, a syrup or tincture. Tinctures are often used in herbal medicine because of the ease of combining different herbs and because the process used to make the tincture is able to draw out the most potent ingredients of the herb.

Botanical medicines can help with a variety of conditions including chronic fatigue, depression, digestive complaints, ADHD, Women's and Men's health, high blood pressure, cardiac complaints, diabetes, musculoskeletal complaints, asthma, allergies and other health issues.
